Placidodomingo_2Here’s your chance to see a classic at a classic.

The Mayan ruin of Chichen Itza might not be on the coast, but most visitors come on day visits from Cancun or the nearby Mayan Riviera. On Oct. 4, many will be coming for a longer stay. One of the three tenors, Placido Domingo, will perform at the archaeological site on a stage set up in front of the central pyramid, el Castillo.

The concert is meant to mark the 20th anniversary of Chichen Itza’s placement on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list, kind of the greatest hits of world travel.

Tickets run $50 to $1,000 and are available online. Domingo was born in Spain, but raised in Mexico. Proceeds from the concert will help fund archeological restoration on the site.
